Who We Are
The Great Lakes Historical and Educational Association is a private nonprofit organization that has been promoting Great Lakes cultural and natural history for over 40 years within our region. We are a local living history organization that specializes in Michigan history. Our knowledge begins with the early Woodland Period and extends through the Logging Era. Our members are well-versed in the cultural and natural history of Michigan and have annually provided interactive opportunities for school groups and public visitors to come and learn about Michigan's past.
We participate in living history interpretation all around the Midwest. We also host two annual events in Bridgeport, MI which are open to the public. The first is our Walk Through History Program and is geared towards students and youth groups*. The second is our annual summer Rendezvous which is open to the public.
We invite you to explore this site to learn more about our programs and where you can find us. We welcome anyone to join us, share in a few good stories, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of Michigan's past and present!
*Our Walk Through History Program is currently on hiatus for the 2021/2022 School Year.*
